About the event
The school and conference will focus on interactions between geometric topology and quantum low-dimensional topology through the construction and study of asymptotic (quasi-classical) properties of exact partition functions of quantum Chern-Simons theory with analytically continued (non-compact) gauge groups, their interpretations within supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and topological string theory. In recent years, these areas were shown to overlap in several subjects, including hyperbolic geometry of 3-manifolds and knot theory. In particular, it has been understood the importance of Chern-Simons theory both for construction and classi fication of quantum invariants, and, in the context of 3-dimensional hyperbolic geometry, a special role of non-compact gauge groups has been elucidated. Several major conjectures in the fi eld, including the volume conjecture and the asymptotic expansion conjecture, have led to increased progress and activity. However, at the present time, the relationships between geometric and quantum topology remain peripheral for both directions and in no case systematic. 

The program is interdisciplinary in nature and is connected to a wide range of areas of mathematics and physics, including low-dimensional topology, geometry, representation theory, and mathematical physics. In particular, in the light of interpretations of Chern-Simons theory within supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and topological string theory.

2-6 July 2018 (Confusius Institute, Geneva): The school part in Geneva (first week) addresses mainly PhD students and postdocs. The intention of the school is to supply young scientists and newcomers with the mathematical basics needed to profit from the scientific talks presented during the international conference part taking place in the second week.

The flight company “Alsie Express” is flying directly to Sønderborg from Copenhagen (CPH): http://alsieexpress.dk/en/ (45 min). This is the easiest way to get to Sandbjerg (12 km from Soenderborg Airport). We urge you to book this flight as soon as possible, as it is a domestic flight route with few seats. The alternative Airports (Billund (BLL) and Aarhus (AAR)) both have a transportation time to Sandbjerg of approx. 3 hours.
