Abstract: The study of coisotropic submanifolds in contact manifolds of any dimension can be regarded as a generalization of the study of surfaces in contact 3-manifolds. In this talk we will discuss basic properties of coisotropic submanifolds including a characterization of singularities of the so-called characteristic foliation and Weinstein-type neighborhood theorems. Time permits, we will also mention the deformation theory of coisotropic submanifolds and compare with the work of Oh-Park in the symplectic case.
