Abstract:
Although not widely known, quantum homology product and proof of its associativity has an essentially purely geometric formulation, without ever mentioning Gromov-Witten invariants, which are just a way of getting numbers out of geometric moduli spaces in symplectic geometry. We discuss this beginning with classical intersection product.
Of course the details involve sophisticated geometric analysis, but for the most part one can appreciate these constructions without knowing it.
