I will discuss some results that allow us to compute the composition multiplicity of the Steinberg module for GL_n(q) in modules with a good filtration, by reducing the calculations to similar (though somewhat more complicated) calculations in characteristic 0. I will then discuss how this can be used to also compute the composition multiplicity of certain other simple modules.
