Abstract
We will explore some of the relationships between the geometry of the flag variety of a semisimple algebraic group and its representation theory. Using the example of SL(n) as a guide, we'll progress from the basic definitions through Schubert cells and the Borel-Weil-Bott theorem, which expresses a relationship between representations of the group and line bundles on its flag variety. No specific knowledge of the geometry of simple groups is required.
