Abstract
In this talk I'll discuss two different quotients in algebraic geometry: the GIT quotient and the stack quotient. These are related and in many situations the understanding the stack is a critical first step to understanding the GIT quotient. I will also give an overview of Gromov-Witten theory and then turn to the question of how to compute the Gromov-Witten theory of a GIT quotient. A first step is to understand gauged Gromov-Witten theory. A key ingredient for the latter is a compactification of the moduli space of bundles on nodal curves.
