Abstract
In 1979 Weinstein conjectured that any Reeb vector field on a compact contact manifold admits a periodic orbit. In my talk I will relate the conjecture to classical mechanics and to holomorphic curves in symplectic cobordisms. Moreover, I will indicate how polyfolds can be used to verify the conjecture for a large class of contact manifolds.
