The Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences 2012 is awarded to QGM Professor Maxim Kontsevich, IHÉS, for his pioneering works in algebra, geometry and mathematical physics and in particular deformation quantization, motivic integration and mirror symmetry. Kontsevich is a part of Centre for Quantum Geometry of Moduli Spaces (QGM).

The Shaw Prize consists of three annual awards: the Prize in Astronomy, the Prize in Life Science and Medicine, and the Prize in Mathematical Sciences. Each prize carries a monetary award of US$1 million. It was established under the auspices of Mr Run Run Shaw in November 2002, is managed and administered by The Shaw Prize Foundation based in Hong Kong.
